Love scams: Unlike other scams, love scams prey on emotions and not financial greed. Love scams can exist over the internet or even in person. Many people have fallen victim to love scams. Once you get an emotional attachment to someone, It can be almost impossible to spot it. Love scammers prey on this. They will learn what you like to hear, say anything in order for you to build that attachment to them. Once they figure that they have you hooked, they ask for money. This should be a red flag.
Look for some of the following warning signs. Please note, if they show any of these signs, it does not necessarily mean that they are love scammers.
1) They ask for money. If you give them money, don’t count on getting it back.
2) The ask for a lot of personal information.
3) They progress very quickly with the romance.
4) They make excuses not to meet in person.
5) They don’t give you much personal information.
6) Use common sense. Have a good look at the info they give you. Are there any conflicts with the info?
Take note: You have no idea who the actual scammer is. They could be anyone using stolen or modified pictures. As they gather information on you, they can use that against you.
